2012-2013 Men’s Basketball Final Stats

Penn State Mont Alto Too Much for Mountain Lions

2/11/13 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost their home finale 64-52. The Mountain Lions played well the entire game, leading in the first half. However, in the end PSU Mont Alto was too much. Drew Walker had 12 points and 5 assists for the Mountain Lions. Jeremiah Mitchell had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists for PSU Mont Alto. The seniors honored at the game were Travis Dunlap and Marquis Middleton. Congratulations to the men’s basketball team on a great regular season.

Mountain Lions Lose to Conference Rival at Pink-Out Game

2/7/13 - The men’s basketball (7-16 overall, 5-10 PSUAC) team played a great game against PSU Hazleton but fell short by the score 63-58. With less than two minutes left in the game, the Mountain Lions found themselves down by 9 points. The team was able to rally on offense and make a couple three point shots to cut the lead, however the defense couldn’t get a stop. Denzel Mensah had a team-high 18 points and 9 rebounds for PSU Wilkes-Barre. Miguel Rodriguez had several big shots in the second half which secured the victory for PSU Hazleton. Rodriguez had a game-high 19 points with 7 rebounds. The Mountain Lions final game is Saturday February 9 at 3pm. The team would like to end the season on a good note by winning at home for senior night.

Men’s Basketball Falls to PSU York

2/4/13 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre (7-15 overall, 5-9 PSUAC) looked good at the beginning of the game last Saturday by getting off to a quick start. The Mountain Lions would eventually lose to the score of 76-68. Denzel Mensah had a game-21 points for the Mountain Lions while making 9 of 11 field goals. Bre’yan Jones had 12 points and 7 assists for the Mountain Lions as well. The men’s basketball team looks to bounce back Wednesday February 6 against Hazleton at 8pm.  

Men’s Basketball Looks to Finish the 2013 Regular Season on a Good Note

2/6/13 - The Mountain Lions have had an eventful season in 2013 to say the least. The team will finish their 2012-13 campaign at home against Penn State Mont Alto. PSU Mont Alto has four players all scoring in double digit points. Jeremiah Mitchell, Keven King, Sharif Welton, Cameron Bowens have scored at least 10.4 points per game. Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mensah led the way with 10.2 and 11.0 points per game respectively. The Mountain Lions want to end their regular season with a win. The game tips off at 3pm on Thursday February 9 in the Athletic and Recreation Building in Lehman, PA.

Men’s Basketball Preview vs. PSU Hazleton

2/4/13 - The Mountain Lions will meet in a PSUAC north division matchup against Penn State Hazleton. This is the second game of three for the Mountain Lions home game finale. This is a chance for all the players to finish their season on a strong note. With the season coming to an end, look for Denzel Mensah and Jacob Bronder to notch over 250 season points and Keith Johnson to have over 200 season points. Both these teams have won over 40% of their games, which should lead to a very close game.  These teams match up extremely well inside the post and outside the perimeter. The game tips off at 8pm on Wednesday, February 6 in the ARB building.  

Men’s Basketball Team Falls at PSU Fayette

1/26/13 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team is now 7-14 overall and 5-8 PSUAC after falling to PSU Fayette last weekend. Denzel Mensah had a team-high 13 points along with 7 rebounds. Drew Walker had 11 points for the Mountain Lions as well. Keith Johnson had 10 points and played for 24 minutes. James Pratt and Brandon Cunningham of PSU Fayette each had a game-high 22 points. The Mountain Lions would like to bounce back next Saturday at 3pm against Penn State York.

Men’s Basketball Team Loses Close Game in Overtime

1/25/13 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team is now 7-13 overall and 5-7 in the PSUAC after a losing a close game to PSU Allegheny. Going into overtime the Mountain Lions looked poised for another victory. Unfortunately,  PSU Greater Allegheny scored 13 points in overtime, while PSU Wilkes-Barre didn’t score. Keith Johnson had a team-high 14 points, and Jacob Bronder had 10 points with 8 rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Petrie Addison had a game-high 21 points to PSU Greater Allegheny. The Mountain Lions travel to PSU Fayette tomorrow.

Mountain Lions Travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny

1/23/13 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (5-12 overall, 4-6 PSUAC) men’s basketball team looks to stay on track against another conference opponent. The season is coming quickly to an end, and the Mountain Lions would like to end their season on a positive note. In order to do that,  they must win this weekend against PSU Greater Allegheny (5-11 overall, 2-7 PSUAC). Nick Dizon of PSU Greater Allegheny leads the team in scoring with 14.1 ppg while shooting 53.2%. PSU Greater Allegheny has a great rebounder in Aaron Byrd. He averages 8.4 rebounds per game, which makes him 3rd overall in the PSUAC. Denzel Mensah and Jacob Bronder average of 11 ppg for the Mountain Lions and will need to play well this weekend in order to win. The game tips off at 8pm.

Mountain Lions Roll Over PSU Lehigh Valley

1/22/13 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team wins a second game in a row, advancing to 7-12 overall, and 5-6 PSUAC. The Mountain Lions dropped 82 points against PSU Lehigh Valley with the final score 82-44. Penn State Wilkes-Barre had three players in double-digit points. Keith Johnson had a game-high 19 points while making 4 of 6 three-point shots. Jesse O’Connell had 15 points with 5 of 6 three-point shots made. Denzel Mensah had 10 points with 4 rebounds. The Mountain Lions look to continue their winning streak against PSU Greater Allegheny, Friday, January 25 at 8pm.  

Mountain Lions Win Over Penn College

1/19/13 - Saturday afternoon the Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team won 78-63 with conference rivals Penn College. Travis Dunlap led the Mountain Lions with a team-high 15 points while making 5 of 7 three-point shots. Keith Johnson had 13 points, 5 assists, and made both three pointers he shot. Jesse Newman of Penn College had a game-high 24 points, while making 10 of 11 free throws. This win moves Penn State Wilkes-Barre into third place in the PSUAC North Division, with a conference record of 4-6 and 5-12 overall. The next game for the Mountain Lions is Tuesday against Penn State Lehigh Valley. This game tips off at 7pm.

Matchup Preview: PSU Lehigh Valley vs. PSU Wilkes-Barre Men’s Basketball

1/18/13 - The Mountain Lions are currently 5-12 overall and 3-6 PSUAC. Looking to get to .500 record before the end of the season, the Mountain Lions must win the rest of their games. The hopes of a late season winning run will continue against 0-13 Penn State Lehigh Valley. PSU Wilkes-Barre has been playing solid basketball against very good competition. This season the Mountain Lions lost four games by 5 points or less. The winless Penn State Lehigh Valley team will give the Mountain Lions a good opportunity to get back to winning. The game tips off Tuesday Jan 22 at 7pm.

Men’s Basketball Game: PSU Wilkes-Barre vs. Penn College

1/17/2013 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team enters this weekend’s matchup with 59.2 points per game, whereas their opponents are averaging 59.6 ppg. Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mensah of PSU Wilkes-Barre are leading the Mountain Lions with over 11 ppg each. Scott Fenton of Central Penn leads the team in points with 12.4 per game. Penn College is currently 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the conference. PSU Wilkes-Barre is 4-12 overall and 3-6 in the PSUAC. The game tips off at 3pm on Saturday.

Mountain Lions Fall to Penn State Scranton Despite Second Half Comeback

1/14/13 - Penn State Scranton got off to a quick start against Penn State Wilkes-Barre (5-12 overall 3-6 PSUAC) with a 22-8 scoring run in the first 9 minutes. Penn State Scranton led 45-25 at halftime due to their 6 of 8 three-point shots. The Mountain Lions opened the second half with a 26-6 scoring run which tied the game at 51 after Keith Johnson (19 points) made a three-point shot with 13 minutes left in the game. Penn State Wilkes-Barre shot 9 of 10 from the free-throw line in the second half, allowing them to stay in the game. The promising come-back push just wasn’t enough to earn the win for the Mountain Lions and they lost 79-75. Penn State Wilkes-Barre plays Penn College at 3pm this Saturday.

Men’s Basketball Loses a Close Battle with Penn State DuBois

1/12/13 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost despite getting off to a quick start last Saturday. Penn State Wilkes-Barre got off to a 23-7 lead 7 minutes into the game with some hot shooting. However, by halftime Penn State DuBois cut the deficit to 9. To start the second half, Penn State DuBois went on a 17-7 scoring run of their own. In the final minutes Penn State DuBois hit critical free throws to force Penn State Wilkes-Barre to a 5-11 overall record and 3-5 PSUAC record.  Jacob Bronder had another double digit scoring game with a team high 14 points for Penn State Wilkes-Barre. The men’s team is looking to get back on track this Monday at home against PSUAC rivals Penn State Scranton.

Men’s Basketball Defeats SUNY ESF at Home

1/10/13 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team advanced to 4-10 (3-4 PSUAC) after a victory at home over SUNY ESF. The matchup was very close until the final minutes of the second half. Travis Dunlap had a team high of 15 points for Penn State Wilkes-Barre, while shooting 3 for 6 from the three-point line. Danny MacElrath led the charge for SUNY ESF with 16 points for a game high. After the first half, PSU Wilkes-Barre only led by 5 points; however due to nine three-point shots made they were able to hold off SUNY ESF in the closing minutes. Jacob Bronder also had 10 rebounds, which helped PSU WB down the stretch as well. Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s next matchup is at Penn State DuBois Saturday at 3 pm.

Men’s Basketball Loses Close Battle with NCAA III Wilkes

1/6/13 – The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team (3-10 overall, 3-4 PSUAC) kept it close the whole game, but fell just short of upsetting Wilkes University on Sunday. The final score was 53-64 in Wilkes-Barre’s fifth game against an NCAA opponent this season. Jacob Bronder led the Mountain Lions with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Travis Dunlap followed up with 13 points. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will next host SUNY-ESF on Thursday afternoon at 5:45pm.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Worthington Scranton

12/13/12 – The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost at Penn State Worthington Scranton tonight by a score of 73-93. Wilkes-Barre was led by Jacob Bronder with 17 points. Wilkes-Barre will head into the break with a 3-4 record in the PSUAC and 3-9 overall. The Mountain Lions will next play again on Sunday, January 6th at home vs. their fifth NCAA Division III opponent of the year, Wilkes University at 2pm.

Men’s Basketball Coach Recognized in Citizens Voice

12/10/12 - Scott Miner, Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s men’s basketball coach, and the 1982-84 Northwest High School basketball team he played on, was recognized by the Citizens Voice as one of the top 25 best high school teams of all time. Penn State Wilkes-Barre Men’s Basketball Fall to NCAA Opponent DeSales

12/8/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (3-7 overall) Men’s Basketball team continued its struggles against NCAA opponents, losing at DeSales 90-42. Wilkes-Barre couldn’t overcome a poor shooting performance from the field, 3-point line, and the free throw line Saturday afternoon. The only player to score in double digits was sophomore Jake Bronder who tallied 12 points on a 6-9 performance from the charity stripe. This was Wilkes-Barre’s 4th NCAA opponent of the season thus far. They still have Wilkes University left on the schedule after the New Year. Wilkes-Barre will be back in action on Tuesday, December 11 for a conference game at Penn State Hazleton. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm.

Men’s Basketball Back on Track after Defeating Penn College

12/5/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (3-6, 3-2 PSUAC) Men’s Basketball team won on the road, despite losing at halftime, against an established Penn College team by a score of 69-65. Sophomore Jake Bronder led all scorers to finish with 20 points on a 9-14 (64%) shooting night. Bronder was one of four players who scored in double figures for the Mountain Lions. Sophomore Drew Walker followed with 14 points, and sophomores Bre’yan Jones and Denzel Mensah added 10 points, respectively. Jones also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Next up for Wilkes-Barre is a meeting with DeSales University on Saturday, December 8 for a non-conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Brandywine, Loses Second Conference Game

12/3/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (2-6, 2-2 PSUAC) Men’s Basketball team lost their second conference game of the season, falling to Penn State Brandywine on Monday evening, 75-62. Only two starters scored in double figures for the Mountain Lions, with sophomores Jake Bronder and Drew Walker contributing 14 and 11 points, respectively.  Off the bench, sophomore Denzel Mensah added 13 points with an impressive 5-10 shooting from the field.  Wilkes-Barre will waste no time as they travel to Williamsport on Wednesday, December 5 with a matchup against Penn College. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm.

Men’s Basketball Falls to Penn State Beaver

12/1/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (2-5, 2-1 PSUAC) Men’s Basketball Team had a strong first half but couldn’t seem to keep pace with Penn State Beaver, falling 82-59, Saturday afternoon in the ARB. Sophomore Jake Bronder shot a perfect 6-6 from the field and finished with 13 points to lead the Mountain Lions. Drew Walker was the only other player to reach double digits as he contributed with 10 points. Wilkes-Barre will begin a stretch of five straight road games before returning home after the New Year. Next game is scheduled for Monday, December 3 against Penn State Brandywine. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm.

Wilkes-Barre Men Get Second Conference Win

11/30/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (2-4, 2-0 PSUAC) Men’s Basketball Team overpowered Penn State New Kensington Friday evening and went on to win 89-68 in the ARB. Wilkes-Barre relied mostly on 3-pointers, drilling 18 of them, with senior Travis Dunlap leading the team with five. Ten different Mountain Lions scored for Wilkes-Barre, with four in double figures. Dunlap led his team with 15 points, junior Keith Johnson had 13, sophomore Drew Walker had 11, and junior Greg Cooper added 10. Johnson, Cooper, and Dunlap each shot a suburb 5-7 from the field. Wilkes-Barre will waste no time as they go back to work Saturday afternoon at 3:00 in another conference game against Penn State Beaver in the ARB.

Men’s Basketball Opens up Conference Play with a Win

11/28/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (1-4, 1-0 PSUAC) Men’s Basketball team opened up conference play with its first win of the season against Penn State Schuylkill, defeating them by a score of 81-68. Sophomore Denzel Mensah was a perfect 7-7 from the field while leading his team to a team-high 20 points and pulling down 7 rebounds in only 21 minutes of action. Sophomore Drew Walker contributed 17 points of his own, drilling 3 three-pointers. Sophomore Bre’yan Jones was 5-7 (71%) from the field to contribute 10 points for the Mountain Lions. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will continue conference play as they take on Penn State New Kensington on Friday, November 30 at 7:00 pm in the ARB.

Men’s Basketball Loses to Division II Opponent

11/20/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-4) Men’s Basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow first half before losing to Division II Lock Haven Tuesday evening, 95-53, in the Thomas Fieldhouse. Sophomore Denzel Mensah had 18 points while shooting 6-13 from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line. Junior Greg Cooper added 12 points while shooting 50% from the field and 57% from the charity stripe in 19 minutes of play. Junior Keith Johnson added five assists. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday, November 28 when they travel to Penn State Schuylkill for their 2012 conference opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Men’s Basketball Falls in the Lycoming Tournament

11/16/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-3) Men’s Basketball team couldn’t find that connection to pull out their first win in the Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament during the weekend. In Wilkes-Barre’s first game of the tournament, they lost to a very strong Lycoming team, 88-45. Their second game, the consolation game, they lost to SUNY Old Westbury by a score of 97-53. Against Lycoming, the only scorer who reached double figures was sophomore Denzel Mensah. He led the Mountain Lions with scoring 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Drew Walker contributed nine points on a 3-6 shooting from behind the arc. Against SUNY Old Westbury, Mensah led his team again with scoring 10 points. Freshman Jesse O’Connell added nine points while sophomore Bre’yan Jones had nine rebounds. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be back in action on Tuesday, November 20th when they travel to Lock Haven for a non-conference game for 7:00pm.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre Men’s Basketball Falls to Johnson College

11/9/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre (0-1) Men’s Basketball team couldn’t come up with the win Friday evening as they traveled to Johnson College for their season opener. The Mountain Lions came up just short, falling 73-70. Despite losing, Penn State Wilkes-Barre showed some positives, with five different players scoring in double figures. The team was led by sophomore Bre’yan Jones who finished with 14 points. Freshman Jesse O’Connell finished with 12 points and senior Travis Dunlap, junior Keith Johnson, and sophomore Will Danwah all had 11 points. Johnson, a junior had an impressive game, nearly missing a double-double as he contributed 11 points and 9 assists. Penn State Wilkes-Barre will be idle until the Lycoming Tournament which is scheduled for the weekend of November 16-17.

Men’s Basketball Loses in PSUAC Championship

2/25/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball lost to Penn State DuBois 68-75 in the PSUAC Championship game on Saturday afternoon in Mont Alto. Freshman forward Jacob Bronder led for Wilkes-Barre, scoring 11 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Wilkes-Barre put together a balanced scoring effort in which 8 players scored 5 or more points. With the loss, Wilkes-Barre wraps up their 2011-2012 season. Wilkes-Barre finished the season 15-13 overall and they went 12-6 in the PSUAC to be named North Division Champions. Senior forward Frank Peters led Wilkes-Barre in both points and rebounds this season. Peters scored 260 points and crashed the boards for 175 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Keith Johnson was Wilkes-Barre’s second-leading scorer, putting up 215 points this season. Johnson also led the team with 49 steals and 82 assists. Freshman Denzel Mensah was the team’s second-leading rebounder, pulling down 96 rebounds. The men’s basketball team worked hard to put together a great season.

Men’s Basketball Upsets #1 Seed Penn State Beaver in Final Four

2/24/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team upset #1 seed Penn State Beaver 86-83 in the Final Four of the PSUAC Championship on Friday night in Mont Alto. Down 35-42 at the half, Wilkes-Barre came out strong to outscore Beaver 51-41 in the second half to take the victory. Freshman Denzel Mensah paced the way for Wilkes-Barre scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 steals. Junior Jared James put up 14 points for Wilkes-Barre, while senior Frank Peters and sophomore Keith Johnson each added 12 points in the win. Peters also pulled down 9 rebounds for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre advances to the PSUAC Championship game against Penn State DuBois on Saturday afternoon, February 25th at 3:00 pm in Mont Alto.

Men’s Basketball Advances to Final Four

2/20/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team defeated North Division rival Penn State Hazleton, 77-64, in a first round PSUAC playoff game on Monday night to advance to the Final Four. Junior Jared James led the way for Wilkes-Barre scoring 15 points. Senior Frank Peters contributed 11 points to the win, while freshmen Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mensah each added 10 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre will head to Mont Alto on Friday, February 24th to compete in the PSUAC Final Four, where they will take on Penn State Beaver at 6:00 pm.

Men’s Basketball Home PSUAC Playoff Game on Monday, February 20th

2/15/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team earned the 4th seed in the PSUAC standings to earn a home playoff game vs. Penn State Hazleton on Monday, February 20th. The game will be held at 7:00 pm in the ARB. Men’s Basketball Falls Short at Mont Alto 2/11/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team fell short to PSUAC rival Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon. After being down 26-34 at the end of the first half, Wilkes-Barre came back in the second half to outscore Mont Alto 26-21. Wilkes-Barre’s valiant effort was not enough though, as they were defeated 52-55. Senior Matt Clemons scored 11 points for Wilkes-Barre, while senior Frank Peters and junior Travis Dunlap each added in 10 points. With the loss, Wilkes-Barre finishes out the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-5 in the PSUAC.

Men’s Basketball Continues Winning Streak

2/9/12 – The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team (13-11, 11-4 PSUAC) extended its season long winning streak to seven games tonight with a 58-47 win over North Division rival, Penn College. Junior, Jared James, provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, while senior Frank Peters added 11 points. Sophomore guard Keith Johnson led the Mountain Lions on the defensive end with 6 steals. Wilkes-Barre plays its regular season finale on Saturday, February 11th at Penn State Mont Alto before playing in the PSUAC playoffs.

Men’s Basketball Wins Close Contest with Penn State York

2/4/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team (11-11 overall, 9-4 PSUAC) won a close contest with Penn State York on Saturday afternoon. Down 33-31 at the half, Wilkes-Barre battled back to take a 59-55 victory. Leading the way for Wilkes-Barre was senior Matt Clemons, who scored 13 points. Sophomore Keith Johnson added 11 points and freshman Drew Walker contributed 10 points to Wilkes-Barre’s win. Wilkes-Barre’s next game is at home on Monday, February 6th at 8:00 pm against Penn State Worthington Scranton. Senior Frank Peters led the way for Wilkes-Barre with a double double. Peters scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Senior Matt Clemons scored 11 points, while junior Jared James and sophomore Keith Johnson each added 10 points for Wilkes-Barre. Men’s Basketball Takes Down PSUAC Rival

1/28/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team took down PSUAC rival Penn State Fayette, 84-69, at home on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Wilkes-Barre to 8-11 on the season and 6-4 in the PSUAC. Wilkes-Barre was led by freshman Drew Walker who scored 21 points, shooting 7-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore Keith Johnson added 15 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre’s next game is at home on Monday night January 30 at 7:00 pm against Penn State Lehigh Valley.

Men’s Basketball Wins at Home

1/27/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team (7-11 overall, 5-4 PSUAC) defeated PSUAC rival Penn State Greater Allegheny, 61-42, at home on Friday night. 1/25/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost at PSUAC rival Penn State Worthington Scranton 65-69 on Wednesday night. With the loss, Wilkes-Barre falls to 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the PSUAC. Freshman guard Drew Walker led Wilkes-Barre with 14 points. Freshman William Danwah scored 12 points and senior Matt Clemons added 11 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre will next play at home against PSUAC rival Greater Allegheny, Friday night, January 27, at 8:00 pm.

Men’s Basketball Fights Hard to Defeat Penn State DuBois

1/20/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men's basketball team fought hard at home to defeat PSUAC rival Penn State DuBois 53-52 Friday night. The win improves Wilkes-Barre to 6-10 on the season and 4-3 in the PSUAC. Wilkes-Barre was led by freshmen Drew Walker with 14 points. Sophomore Keith Johnson added 10 points for the Mountain Lions, while senior Matt Clemons added in 8 points. Wilkes-Barre will next play Wednesday night, January 25 at 8:00 pm on the road against Penn State Worthington Scranton.

1/18/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost a close battle at home Wednesday night against PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton. Tied 39-39 at half time, Wilkes-Barre fell to Hazleton 66-72. The loss drops Wilkes-Barre to 5-10 on the season and 3-3 in the PSUAC. Freshmen Drew Walker led Wilkes-Barre with 15 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc. Senior Frank Peters added 14 points for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre will next play at home Friday night, January 20th against Penn State DuBois.

Basketball Pink-Out Fundraiser for Cancer

1/14/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre athletic department will be holding a “Coaches vs. Cancer” Night on Thursday, February 2 at 6:00 pm to raise awareness for cancer research. The event will take place during a basketball double-header against Penn State New Kensington and all proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society. 1/5/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team (5-8 overall, 3-2 PSUAC) fell to Thaddeus Stevens 62-68 on Thursday night. Senior Frank Peters lead Wilkes-Barre with 10 points. Junior Travis Dunlap and freshman Jacob Bronder each added 9 points. Freshman Denzel Mensah grabbed 14 rebounds for the team. 1/4/12 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost their first game of the new year at Division II’s Shippensburg University on Tuesday night. Wilkes-Barre started the game off well leading 32-29 at half time before falling 53-86. Wilkes-Barre was led by Freshman Denzel Mensah with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Keith Johnson added 10 points. Wilkes-Barre will next play host to Thaddeus Stevens on Thursday night, January 4th at 7:00 pm.

12/10/11 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost a close battle to NCAA Division III opponent DeSales University 61-73 this afternoon. The loss dropped Wilkes-Barre to 5-6 overall, but they remain 3-2 in the PSUAC Conference. Wilkes-Barre was led by senior Frank Peters with 14 points. Freshman Jacob Bronder added 10 points. The Wilkes-Barre men will head into break before returning to play at Shippensburg on Tuesday, January 3rd at 7pm.

12/6/11 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team improved to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in the PSUAC by defeating Penn State Brandywine 79-65 on Tuesday night. Wilkes-Barre was led by Senior Matt Clemons with 22 points, including 6-8 from behind the arc. Freshmen Jacob Bronder and Denzel Mesah each added 10 points in a balanced scoring effort. Wilkes-Barre will next play at PSUAC rival Penn State Hazleton on Friday night before turning around to play DeSales University at home on Saturday at 3pm.

11/30/11 - The Penn State men’s basketball team (2-4) went back and forth with Penn State Schuylkill (1-4) all night before eventually falling short 65-69. Wilkes-Barre was led by senior Frank Peter’s double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Denzel Mensah provided a scoring punch for Wilkes-Barre with 21 points on 7-10 shooting, including 4-4 from behind the arc. Wilkes-Barre next heads to Penn State New Kensington for their second PSUAC matchup on Friday.

Bronder Named to Messiash College Tip Off All-Tournament Team

11/19/11 - Freshman Jacob Bronder (Pittsburgh, PA) was named to the Messiah College Tip Off Tournament All-Tournament Team on Saturday afternoon. Bronder’s defense and solid decision earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Bronder finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds in Wilkes-Barre’s win over Williamson Trade on Saturday. Wilkes-Barre lost to Messiah College on Friday night before rebounding to beat Williamson the following day.

Men’s Basketball Loses Hard Fought Battle at Centenary

11/22/11 - Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball lost to NCAA affiliated Centenary College tonight 66-74 to fall to 2-3 on the season. Wilkes-Barre was led by Frank Peters with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Wilkes-Barre will next head to PSUAC Conference rival Penn State Schuylkill on November 30th at 8pm.

Men’s Basketball Splits At Messiah Tournament

11/19/11 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team lost to Messiah College 40-63 on Friday night before turning around and beating Williamson Trade 50-47 the next day. Freshman Jacob Bronder was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Men’s Basketball Wins Home Opener

11/7/11 - The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s basketball team won their home opener 75-58 over Johnson College (0-1) to begin the season 1-0. Wilkes-Barre was led by Sophomore Keith Johnson who had 13 points. Senior Matt Clemons added 12 for the Mountain Lions. Wilkes-Barre forced Johnson to turn the ball over 22 times in the 40 minutes. Wilkes-Barre’s next game is at home next Tuesday at 8:00 pm vs. Lycoming.
