Three Medal in First Cross-Country Meet
9/13/14 – The Penn State Wilkes-Barre cross country team had three runners medal in the first meet of the 2014 season.
In the women's meet, Becky Wychock finished second overall and in the PSUAC with a time of 22:37 in the 5k race. Ashley Oliver finished 10th overall and eighth in the PSUAC with a time of 24:17. As a team, Wilkes-Barre finished third out of four teams.
In the men's meet, Kyle Borland finished 12th overall and 5th in the PSUAC with a time of 19:35 in the 5k. David Yunkinis finished 13th overall and sixth in the PSUAC with a time of 19:47. As a team, Wilkes-Barre finished second overall out of six teams.
Carey Earns All-American Honors at USCAAs
11/8/13 – Freshman Jason Carey finished third overall to earn USCAA All-American honors at the USCAA Cross Country National Championships.
In the women's race, sophomore Emily Pszeneczny finished 43rd overall with a time of 27:28, while freshman Azalee McAlpine finished 102 overall with a time of 31:08. 145 total runners competed in the women's 6k race.
In the men's race, Carey finished third overall in the 8k race with a time of 27:45. The men's team finished eighth overall out of nineteen total teams.
183 runners competed in the men's race. Junior Chris Monahan finished 68 overall with a time of 31:45 and freshman Shane McCrory finished 69th with a time of 31:50. Freshman David Yunkunis also finished in the top 100, finishing 93rd overall with a time of 32:44.
Men’s Cross Country Team Makes History,
Wins First PSUAC Championship
10/19/13 – The Penn State Wilkes-Barre men’s cross-country team made school and PSUAC conference history on Saturday afternoon. The team won the first team championship in school history and became the first school other than Penn College to win the PSUAC championship since 2004.
In the men’s race, freshman Jason Carey won the team’s second consecutive PSUAC men’s individual championship, finishing first overall. Carey, along with junior Chris Monahan and freshman Shane McCrory who finished fourth and sixth, earned PSUAC All-Conference honors. Freshman David Yunkunis finished ninth, while junior Tyler Shelly finished thirteenth, earning Second Team All-Conference honors.
In the women’s cross-country race at the PSUAC Championships, junior Emily Pszeniczny and freshman Ashley Oliver finished third and fourth overall, earning PSUAC All-Conference honors. Freshman Azalee McAlpine finished eleventh, earning PSUAC Second Team All-Conference honors.
The team will next compete at the USCAA National Championships in Syracuse, NY, on Novemeber 8th.
Stanchak Named PSUAC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year
10/19/13 – On Saturday, Penn State Wilkes-Barre’s third-year Head Coach, Brian D. Stanchak, was honored by the conference by being named PSUAC Men’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year. This season the men’s team won the first conference team championship in school history.
Cross Country Strong at LCCC Meet
10/12/13 – Penn State Wilkes-Barre Cross Country headed to compete at the Luzerne County Community College meet on Saturday. In the women’s race, Ashley Oliver finished third, while Emily Pszeniczny and Azalee McAlpine finished fourth and eighth overall. In the men’s race, Jason Carey finished first, while Chris Monahan finished fourth, Dave Yunkunis sixth and Shane McCrory seventh.
The team’s next meet is at the PSUAC Championships next Saturday, October 19th, at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre Medals Four Times
at PSU Fayette Invitational
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre cross country team got off to a fast start this season, claiming four medals at the Penn State Fayette Invitational. In the women’s race, sophomore Emily Pszeniczny finished third overall, while freshman Ashley Oliver from Wilkes-Barre, PA finished sixth overall. In the men’s race, freshman Jason Carey finished first overall by a large margin, while freshman Shane McCrory finished eighth overall. The men’s team finished second overall in the team competition.
The Mountain Lions’ next meet will be on campus next Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
