Science Olympiad competition

Penn State Wilkes-Barre is the site for this year’s 2009 Science Olympiad. A grass roots organization comprised of educators and concerned citizens, the northeast regional competition will be held on Wednesday, March 11, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Wilkes-Barre campus.

The goal of the Science Olympiad is to stimulate interest in science through the excitement of competition with personal and team awards. Approximately 1300 students, coaches and parents from over 50 different high schools and middle schools will be competing at this year’s event.

A total of 40 different activities will be held in the areas of science and engineering. Students will participate in astronomy, anatomy, forensics, food sciences, meteorology, and robotics. Various other disciplines will also be tested. The winners of both the junior and senior high teams will advance to the state competition.
