Youth Programs

Penn State Wilkes-Barre offers a wide variety of development programs for youth. Students of all ages can enjoy an educational experience in a university setting. Programs are customized to offer each age group the appropriate mix of educational and fun activities. Our youth programs are high quality, interactive and taught by university-approved instructors. SAT Preparation Course


Women in the Sciences and Engineering (WISE)

Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Women in the Sciences and Engineering (WISE) program is for young women in grades 6-8. The primary mission of the WISE program is to facilitate the entry and success of women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The 2014 WISE program will be held August 12-14, 2014 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. It will be led by Frouke de Quillettes, Senior Instructor in IST, and William Bachman, Senior Instructor in Communications.

Tuesday, August 12 (Lunch provided)
What is Information Sciences and Technology?

Learn about the many disciplines within this exciting field. The focus of this session will be to explore the process of effective communication and the technology used today to get your message out – whether you are an individual, a business, a school, or a group. Utilize the process to create your story, either a news clip or a full Hollywood-type movie plot.

Wednesday, August 13 (Lunch Provided)
What processes are involved in the making of your digital movie or any software?

Develop your own movie using the information learned on effective communication and all movie clips, pictures, and sounds collected on Tuesday. Learn how to find music to customize your movie.

Thursday, August 14 (Lunch Provided)
Get a head start on potential careers in the Information Sciences and Technology field!

This session starts with the presentation of the movies. Discover career guidance resources through the Internet and find out how you can explore other career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math fields in an exciting, fun summer camp!
