Transfer Requirements
Transfer admission to Penn State Wilkes-Barre is possible after applicants have completed 18 semester hours of credit. Most programs require a minimum grade point average of 2.0, although programs in engineering and the sciences typically require a cumulative average of at least a 2.5. Education programs typically require a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Certain programs may also require the completion of prerequisite courses.
For admission to Penn State's University Park campus, applicants must have completed 2 years of college level work and have strong academic records. Certain programs have more stringent grade point average requirements and may also require the completion of prerequisite courses.
Some programs may not be available to transfer students. See our Academic Program Requirements page for details.
Transfer student admission decisions are made on the basis of several combined factors:-
- The total number of credits a student has accumulated from all college and universities attended.
- The total grade point average (GPA) from all college and universities attended.
- Choice of major.
Transferring Credits
Course work successfully completed at other colleges and universities that are members of the six regional accrediting associations will be considered for transfer credit.
To be eligible for review: The grade received in the course must be equivalent to a “C” (2.0) or higher at Penn State. Penn State must have a similar program or course offering. The course should be useful in the student’s program of study at Penn State.
College-level course work completed at colleges or universities that are licensed by state boards of education to award associate degrees (or higher) but that are not members of one of the six regional accrediting associations may be eligible for credit by validation.
